Handcrafting a brighter future
Supporting disadvantaged youth is something close to Founder Kacie's heart, who understands that the moral responsibility to uplift socially and economically disadvantaged youth transcends national borders, reflecting our shared humanity. Whether a youth is struggling to survive or striving to thrive, their location should never determine their value or opportunities – no matter where they are in the world.
Cape Town faces deeply entrenched socio-economic inequalities and has one of the highest unemployment rates in the world. The informal settlements of Cape Town are home to communities living under the weight of generational poverty and deeply rooted systemic issues, perpetuated by historical injustices, limited access to quality education, healthcare, housing and employment opportunities.
Harlen helps support real change by creating employment opportunities for these youth where they gain access to formal skills development and qualifications for their craft at an accredited training facility, at no cost of their own. The hope is that this will empower them to join the job market with a usable skill and change their life.
A handwritten thank you note is transformed into a plaque and placed inside each vanity drawer, sharing this meaningful story and creating connection and joy with our customers.
